ColdCallBlocker™ for Windows Mobile™ User Guide - Update Definitions

An optional subscription to the ColdCallBlocker Network™ provides you with an additional level of protection beyond your own personal list of blocked callers. A valid subscription grants you access to the online database of all currently known cold-callers. This information is copied to your phone and is cross-referenced each time you receive an incoming call. Any caller listed in the database will be blocked immediately, even if they have never called you before.

There are two ways in which you can achieve a successful download of the known cold-caller database.

USB Cable

To update the cold-calling definitions on your phone by using your computer, you will need to install the ColdCallBlocker™ for Windows™ desktop software. This application is licensed separately, but a license for that product is only needed if it is being used to filter calls on a land-line. ColdCallBlocker™ for Windows™ desktop is free to use if you are just using it to update a copy of ColdCallBlocker™ running on your phone.

Once installed you are ready to update ColdCallBlocker™ on your cell phone. Close the application on your phone and connect it to the computer that is running ColdCallBlocker™ for Windows™ desktop. The following screen will appear when you click the "Mobile Sync" button on the desktop application:

On this screen you will be able to begin the update process by clicking the "Update Connected Cell Phone" button. Once the process is complete, ColdCallBlocker™ running on your cell phone now contains details of the latest organizations that are known to use cold-calling techniques.

Data Plan

Updating ColdCallBlocker™ that is running on your phone by using the device's own data connection is somewhat easier than updating it via a computer and USB cable. However, it should be noted that the data being transferred will count towards any monthly data usage cap imposed by your cell phone service provider if your phone is not connected to a Wi-Fi access point when you initiate the update procedure.

To update, press the "Menu" button located on the main ColdCallBlocker™ screen and select the "Update" menu option. Proceed to the screen show below left and enter your ColdCallBlocker Network™ account details before pressing the "Continue" button. After displaying a further informational screen the actual update will then take place. The process will appear on your phone screen as per the second screenshot below:

If ColdCallBlocker™ reports a successful conclusion to the update then the latest cold-calling patterns have been successfully downloaded to your device. Alternatively, an error message will indicate that the application has been unable to connect to the Internet. In this situation, if it is not immediately apparent why the ColdCallBlocker™ app is unable to connect to our update servers, then the previously documented USB cable method should be used instead.
